Eight states including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Karnataka have prepared action plans for agricultural export policy. The objective of this policy is to double agricultural exports. The central government gave this information on Sunday. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement that the Agricultural Export Policy was announced last year. The aim is to double exports and double farmers' income.
Several states have nominated nodal agency and nodal officers for this. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Punjab and Karnataka have finalized the state action plan. Several other states are in various stages of finalizing the action plan. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is adopting a focused approach to ensure greater participation of state governments for effective implementation of agricultural export policy.
APEDA held several meetings throughout the year with state government officials and other stakeholders to prepare a state action plan. All the major issues like production clusters, capacity building, infrastructure and logistics, research and development and budget requirements were discussed in these. Several rounds of talks were held with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Food Processing Industries and other agencies. Many states have formed state level monitoring committees. The nodal officers of APEDA have gone to the cluster. Many seminars and meetings have been organized by APEDA to implement this policy. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the National Cooperative Development Corporation for the active role of cooperatives in the policy.
